Micah had decided on spending the afternoon with his toddler, but MJ had told him that she would finish out the day at work for the pair of them and then lock up at the end of the night. Instead of calling for a cab or a friend to bring her home, MJ had decided to just walk home instead. It wasn't that far at all and the pair had a duplex in town, so she'd be safe the entire way home. There would be a bunch of people on the streets walking back and forth, to and from work, as well as to and from clubs, restaurants, and a variety of other things to do in the city.
Once MJ had made it home, she unlocked the front door and stepped inside. Not bothering to turn around, the female just pushed the door shut with her foot, but when it bounced back towards her, she looked over her shoulder and saw someone dressed in all black there with her. Screaming shortly, just before being pushed into the house and being grabbed and pushed to the ground. When she felt the weight of the male on top of her, MJ started thrashing around as the male pushed her skirt up. Thrashing around even harder, MJ knew what was about to happen, so she was doing everything that she possibly could to try and get it to stop.
While the male was still on top of her, he tried to subdue her by hitting her a few times in the face. It wasn't until one hit that knocked her out that the female stopped thrashing about and trying to defend herself.
A few minutes later, MJ's eyes started to blink open and heard movement in the house. Hoping that it was her baby brother, MJ called out to him. "Micah?" she called out. Unfortunately, it wasn't, but the burglar still in the house had heard her call out a name. Not expecting her to be awake again, he had come over and inflicted even more pain to the female, hitting her until her face was swollen in pain. Passing out again, MJ was just left on the floor in pain and bleeding pretty badly.
A few hours later, MJ woke up again, listening to her surroundings before even trying to move. Not hearing anything, the female tried to go for her cellphone in her purse that was only a few feet from her. Unfortunately, whomever had beaten her, had taken it with him when he had left. Not have the energy or strength to crawl to the house phone to call her baby brother, MJ was just left to lay there on the floor until her brother had decided to come home that evening.

Micah and his sister had decided upon letting Micah take the car and leave work early to go be with Kely. MJ certainly didn't agree with the age difference but she still let her brother go because she knew what Micah was like with the ladies. Micah couldn't really disagree with sister's opinion of him either. He was a horn dog and anything with nice legs and blond hair, was usually in bed with him within twenty four hours.
Micah had finally headed home from his day with Kely in the wee hours of the morning. When he looked down quickly to the car's clock, he noticed it was after 1am. He drove home in less time than when he had driven to Kely since it was now so late. Getting to the duplex that the siblings shared, Micah pulled in and turned the car off.
Getting out, he looked down at himself to see that he was still dressed up in Kely's brother's clothes. He laughed a bit at what MJ's reaction would be to what he was wearing. He turned his attention forward as he walked up the steps to the front door.
It was open.
It wasn't like MJ to forget to leave the door open. She was always so sure that something would happen in this city if she didn't lock things. His walk turned into a slight jog as he hopped the steps and quickly went into their half of the duplex. He started looking around and immediately spotted MJ on the floor, bleeding.
"Mackinleigh? Mack? MJ!" he called as the male ran to her side and dropped down to his knees. His first reaction was to check her pulse. She was still alive, just unconscious. Micah quickly pulled his cell phone out of his pocket and dialed 911. He put his phone between his shoulder and his face and used both hands to try shaking MJ and touch her face. She wasn't responding and the bleeding from her face was getting worse.
It was then that he looked down her body and saw that her panties were around her ankles and her skirt, which normally fell to around her knees, was up on her thighs. Micah quickly put two and two together and his heart felt like someone had punched it. She had been violated, in their home, all because she was alone. It was his fault she had to lock up the store alone and it was his fault that she had to walk home alone. He had abandoned her for a girl.
It was only a few minutes later that the ambulance arrived. When the EMT's began putting her on a stretcher, Micah could feel the anger at himself build up. He told them that he was going with her in the ambulance. When they tried to tell him that family was the only one who could, he interrupted them. "I'm her fucking brother! Let me go with her!" he yelled angrily then pushed his way into the ambulance as they put the stretcher in.
The whole ride to the hospital, Micah held onto MJ's bruised hand. He wasn't going to let her go again. He wasn't going to leave her alone again. Not ever. He had made a promise to always be there for her. Hell, that's why when he had the idea of starting a sports shop, she was the first person he asked to help him with it. He wasn't about to lose her now.
After a quick ride to the hospital, the EMT's quickly wheeled her into the Intensive Care Unit. Micah jogged alongside the stretcher as it rolled, not letting go of his big sister's hand. When they wheeled her into a room to start resuscitating her, a few male nurses had to almost carry a fighting Micah out of the room.
Two hours later, they had stabilized MJ and were allowing visitors. Micah had calmed down but his knuckles suggested otherwise. He had punched the wall consistently, slowing losing power behind them, since he had left the room. He was nervous and angry and worried all at the same time. When the doctors came out and told him she was fine and that he could go in to see her, he didn't even let them finish before running past them to her room.
Walking up to the door, Micah pushed it open slowly to look in. Seeing MJ covered in wires and tubes made the male immediately break down. No one had seen him cry except MJ. But right then, he didn't care who saw him. His sister was lying in a hospital bed because of him. He walked over to the side of the bed and pulled the chair up behind him as he went. He sat down and put his hand on hers. He was tired and became more so now that he was relaxing a bit. He put his head down on her arm and began to drift into sleep.

What seemed like days later, Mackinleigh's eyes blinked opened very slowly. She wasn't too sure where she was, but when she remembered what had happened to her, her heart started racing and her eyes moved vigorously, looking around the room to make sure that she wasn't going to be attacked again. Her hands gripped whatever it was that was underneath her and continued to breathe quickly and heavily.
Looking around, the brunette saw her little brother sleeping next to her, his head near her arm. Letting her grip of the bed go, MJ brought her hand up to her brother's head and gently stroked his hair. He was probably the one that found her, which made the girl's heart break; she didn't want her baby brother to see her like this, nor having to have walked in on her only half alive.
Gathering all of the strength that she had left in her body, MJ moved over, leaving enough room for her brother to get on the bed and sleep next to her. The siblings were close with each other, always being the ones that they could turn to no matter the situation. As soon as she had moved over as much as she could, MJ brought her hand back to her brother's face. "Micah," the female whispered, trying to wake her brother, but trying not to startle him at the same time. "Micah, come up her and sleep. You're going to be sore in the morning if you continue sleeping in that chair," the female spoke.

Micah's dreams were really turning more into nightmares. He started to dream about showing up at the house as the attacker was on top of his sister. Then the dream turned into some funky stuff where Micah was actually his sister and he was the one being attacked. His heart started racing rather quickly and he could feel his body physically hyperventilating in the real world.
It was when a hand started touching his face that Micah basically jolted awake. His body didn't actually jolt but his mind did. After a sharp intake of breath, Micah heard MJ whispering to him to join her on the bed. Micah looked at her with sleepy eyes, nodded then proceeded to get out of the chair and slowly climb into the bed next to his sister.
The moment he was in the bed, Micah turned so that his body was facing MJ. He held his sister's hand and curled up next to her like he would when they were kids. Micah was afraid of thunder when they were kids and instead of running to their parents' room, he ran to MJ's room. "I love you Mackinleigh," Micah sleepily muttered as he rested more comfortably and drifted off into sleep again.
The morning came rather quickly since it had only been a few hours since they had gotten to the hospital. Micah woke up from the sun now beaming down through the window. He looked over to see his sister resting peacefully. Sneakily, Micah got himself away from MJ without waking her. He got out of the bed and tiptoed far enough away that he could stretch his arms and back a bit.
After doing so, a doctor quietly came in. The nurse nodded in the direction of MJ, sort of asking how she was doing so Micah nodded and smiled at her. The nurse then called him over with her finger. She quietly asked him if he wanted any breakfast but he told he'd wait until MJ was awake so they could eat together. The nurse told him that was fine and to just page her when they were ready before leaving the room and quietly shutting the door behind her.
Micah walked back over and sat down in the chair that he had pulled up to the bed. Then he started humming. Looking at Micah and even talking to him, most people would not figure out that the boy could sing. His quiet humming soon turned into quiet singing as he watched his big sister sleep. He started to sing a song that to him, was what their shared relationship was. As he softly sung, he started to feel guilty. The lyrics of the song were true. Except for last night. Micah wasn't home. He wasn't waiting for MJ. He wasn't there.
